Have you ever asked what a million dollar collection looks like?Well, we just came across an estate of 172 large binders full of space covers and photos - collected by a wealthy German collector over approximately 30 years. He literally bought everything that was offered by dealers such as Sieger, Goede, Coelle, Fuchs, Gemsa and others in those days. Of course - most simple philatelic covers he had 5-10 times each are worth a fraction today of what he paid while the autographs certainly kept a certain value or increased like Armstrong or the Apollo 11 insurance covers. Based on old invoices he kept the total price he paid was indeed around one million... We have uploaded some 200 key items from that collection — though some already sold directly — don't forget to submit your wantlist, these are always served first! You list your Dow Apollo 11 cover as an insurance cover. Was it astronaut owned or is it an insurance type cover? I was under the impression that only covers from the astronauts collection and signed pre-flight could be considered insurance covers. Is it possible that this cover was signed after the flight? |

Most of these insurance covers distributed in Germany by Goede and Sieger + Coelle (who was a close friend of Matt Radnofsky, the inventor of them) do not bear any markings from whom they were acquired originally. This is a more recent development in the collectors market that astronauts started to inscribe the insurance covers. I know that Coelle worked with Michael Collins, so these are believed to come from him. All of them carry the distinctive color of the pens and were signed before the flight thus are insurance covers. |

Some delicious material. I note an Apollo 15 crew signed envelope. Should we consider it a Captain's cover if it isn't postmarked on the ship? |

Good question David!I would compare it to the Apollo 17 insurance covers forgotten to be postmarked. The cover is definitely from the ship. |
