The silhouette of Columbia and her crew adorns the top of the emblem as a permanent reminder of the critical nature of STS-114's success, along with all 22 post-107 shuttle missions, which are represented in the stars surrounding the "10".

The seven-person crew is seen at the base of the emblem with the ISS above as it looked at the completion of the mission (LF1 in the assembly matrix). George Diller's words at the time of liftoff surround the artwork as a reminder of that which we as a nation should strive to achieve. To the Moon, Mars and beyond!
