Here are some signed items from Apollo astronauts. The ones from Apollo 15 and 16 are each signed by the full crews. As for Apollo 14...Alan Shepard WSS portrait NASA litho, personalized. Uninscribed ones sell for over $1,000; but this one is personalized and has some bends in the lower left, and is therefore just $175. Stuart Roosa WSS portrait NASA litho, personalized. These are much more rare than those from Shepard. It looks great on the front, but there are some small spots of foxing on the back (which don't show through to the front). The last time one of the major auction houses sold a personalized Roosa WSS litho, it went for $514. $325. I also have a personalized Ed Mitchell WSS portrait NASA litho for $45. |

SOLD Here is an 8x10 showing the scene at the Manned Spacecraft Center just after the return of Apollo 15. It's inscribed on the mat by Jim Irwin "To John Watson - thanks for the good work at Mission Control" and signed by all the members of the crew. It is framed. (That spot you might see to the left is just tape I had forgotten about and will clean off.) Interestingly enough, Farthest Reaches just sold the counterpart to this piece. It's the same photograph, also signed on the mat, but TO Al Worden and FROM John Watson and four others from Mission Control. They inscribed it "Proud to have been on your team." SOLD $195, plus $15 for shipping. |

SOLD I bought a large photo of the Apollo 16 splashdown mounted on a large mat, and inscribed and signed by the crew on that mat. The original photo was faded and scratched so badly that someone had used a blue marker to try to go over the scratches. So I got a new 16x20 print of a bright, beautiful different photo of the splashdown on archival photo paper. (I know the "jump salute" is the most popular photo from that mission, but I chose one that involved the whole crew.) I haven't attached the new print over the old one yet - I thought that should be up to you, unless you request that I go ahead, using acid-free photo-safe double-sided tape. This will cover up the personalization and make for a great large display in your house once you get it framed. (I'll send interested buyers a photo of the original photo and personalization.) An example of the dark, sharp signatures:
The mat does have a couple of discolored spots and dings, and therefore this is priced lower than what Apollo 16 signed photos often sell for (such as $717 for the crew's signatures on a mat just like this one, only smaller). SOLD $295, plus $15 for shipping. SOLD Bonus Apollo 16 crewman Ken Mattingly autograph! An unpersonalized shuttle-era orange space suit NASA litho. Just $85 SOLD. |

I forgot that I DO have an item signed by the whole Apollo 14 crew. It's an envelope-sized postcard that I guess isn't precisely a "cover" since it isn't a full envelope, but it has a nice Apollo 14 cachet and was postmarked on the day of the mission's launch. (You might notice that Shepard signed as "Al", which he did occasionally - on this note, for example.) A bit of possibly interesting provenance: this one was mailed to a staffer at the office of United States Congressman Thomas N. Downing from Virginia, who joined the Committee on Science and Astronautics in 1961. His name appears on such documents as NASA's 1963 report to Congress about the first American manned orbital flights, and the 1967 investigation of the Apollo 1 fire. (This PDF file of a 1970 NASA newsletter has that name and address — just search for "2135".) His was one of dozens of names etched onto the silicon disk of Goodwill Messages left on the surface of the moon by the Apollo 11 astronauts. (You can search for "Downing" on this list of Goodwill Messages signers.) A similar Apollo 14 launch cover sold at auction recently for $896. However, that one was a full envelope, and not addressed. Hence the good price on this one. $250 |
