My grandfather was a pad leader at NASA starting from the beginning of the program. He is in the Spacewalk Hall of Fame. His name is Gerald Walden. I will list the stuff I have minus the photos with autographs because there are to many too list. Please advise me on how to handle this stuff. What an impressive collection, I'm sure any museum would love to dispay your items. |

Here are some photos of the items. When looking at the Grumman Plane News mag. cover, that is my Grandpa next to the astronaut. |

Welcome to collectSPACE Proclone69.I'm a long time NASA patch collector, so the 6" patches you listed intrigued me, as I've not come across many of this size. Now you have posted the link to the images, I can now see that most are the 4" Lion Brothers made Apollo mission patches. The exception being the 3 smaller Grumman patches and the LM-1 Apollo 5 patch, (in the top left of the image). The LM-1 Apollo 5 patch is the rarest one in your group of 13 patches, and only 8 have been sold at auction in the last 5 years. Recent sales have sold for $345.00 to $425.00 each in the last 2 years. Next is the 3 1/2" Grumman Lunar Module KSC patch. This one has sold recently for $258.75. The small 3" 'X' patch I've not come across before, so no previous sales figures on that one. Lastly the 3 1/2" Grumman Logo patch, this is hard to find but not rare, and the 10 sold so far this year have fetched between $25.00 to $92.00. Finally the 4" Apollo Lion Brothers patches sell for between $20.00 to $35.00 each. I hope this helps you to put a value to at least the patches. I will leave it to others on this forum to value the other item you have in this fabulous accumulation of your grandfather's working life for NASA at Cape Kennedy. |

The badges with White Room access are certainly quite valuable, among other things. My first piece of advice would be ... DON'T SELL ANYTHING until you are sure what it is worth! You will be receiving e-mails from some folks who will offer what sounds like very fair offers, but they will be well below the market value. Take some time, educate yourself, and then sell once you are comfortable with it. Some of the items might be of interest to a museum, although most museums would likely take a collection like this, display a few items at a time, and the rest would remain in a storage room. Also, most museums sell items in their collection in order to obtain other items. If you want to have a museum display some things, let their curator review what you have and offer to place them on loan to the museum. That way you still have some control. Finally, consider consigning with a reputable auction house -- there are several who specialize in space memorabilia. They can advise you which of the items are "really good stuff" and which are fairly common. Just noticed the Grumman "Pad Leader" jacket ... that's a fairly unique item too. Good luck! |
