I am interested in purchasing / borrowing for research the USS Okinawa 1971 Apollo 15 Recovery Cruise Book. Apparently 121 pages long, published by Allen Publishing, it has "Apollo Moon Book" on the cover and a photo of Al Worden existing Endeavour during recovery. I understand it was created to chronicle, in words and pictures, the ships' activities during Apollo 15 recovery operations.

I don't have one myself, and I'm not sure if this will help but there is one currently listed on eBay... Item #360182309127.

Thanks Jeff - yes, there are currently two on ebay, but the cheapest is $250. That may well be what they are worth (I don't know), but more money than I'd wish to invest in something to use briefly in potential research. I'm hoping there are cheaper ones out there somewhere... thanks.

I was aboard the Okinawa (LPH-3) during the recovery of Apollo 15 and was one of the few sailors that bought one of the Apollo 15 mission books. I would never part with it, however, I might be able to let you use it for research. Let me know if you are still in need of the book.

Michael, thank you so much for your reply.

At the time I originally posted, I was doing research for Apollo 15 astronaut Al Worden and his forthcoming memoir, and this is a book I have not seen. Nor, to his recollection, has Al ever seen a copy.

Noting that you are not too far from DC, I'd like to invite you to this free event. It would be a great opportunity for Al and myself to see a copy of the book if you were willing to bring it along.

If that doesn't work for you, I'm likely (without Al) to be out in the Antietam area, not far from you, a couple of days before the event, and perhaps we could meet then.

The forthcoming book, incidentally, includes Al's recollections of his recovery by the Okinawa, and we've added some extra photos of those events here too.

All times are CT (US)
