In 1982 the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell AFB began commissioning art that would recognize aviation pioneers and greats for their accomplishments. Each year the graduating class chooses the "Eagles" to be featured. The "Eagles" were represented on the original painting with the depiction of an aircraft that they were famous for flying. Each "Eagle" also hand signs each print in pencil. The 1983 print was painted by artist John Ficklen and was signed in pencil by the following Aviators: George Vaughn, Leigh Wade, "Pete" Quesada, James Haizlip, Olli Puhakka, Finland Witold Urbanowicz, "Tex" Hill, Saburo Sakai, Jack Cram, Clive Caldwell, John Oswalt, Franics "Gabby" Gabreski, Günther Rall, Pierre Clostermann, William Hudson, Carl Fraser, Joe Engle, Frank Borman, Maxie Anderson, C.H. Dickens, Mary Haizlip, John Cunningham, Paul Tibbets, James Brewer, Cook Cleland, "Chuck" Yeager, "Bernie" Fisher. It is a limited series of only 1000. In the time since the print was released nearly half of the featured "Eagles" have passed away. For anyone who collects the Gathering of Eagles series, this is a rare opportunity to own one of the most difficult years. The print that I am selling is HC #12/100 and is professionally framed in brushed aluminum. I am not setting a price but will consider any reasonable offer. I may also consider trading for other art that I don't currently have. Please contact me if you have any additional questions. ------------------ Aaron M. Lyon www.wings4flight.com |
