To celebrate the 50th anniversary of US space exploration I have designed a series of patches that will commemorate the rich history. There are six patches in all. They will be released over the next 12 months. This is the first.

Patch Description
This diamond shaped patch measures 4" on each side (5.75" across from "west to east"). It is inspired by the original NASA Seal as well as the newest program Ares. Since the manned and unmanned programs are too vast and numerous to illustrate, this design aims to celebrate all of our efforts. The gold trajectory illustrates that we have left our planet to journey to the stars beginning 50 years ago. The twelve stars on the right side of the launch plume represent the 12 men who walked on the Moon. The thirteen stars on the left when taken with the other twelve represent the 25 US Astronauts who died in the line of duty (including Edward Givens). The constellation Orion represents the navigational tool used during the Apollo program as well as our future goals. The Moon and the red planet Mars illustrate the destination of the Vision for Space Exploration.

I am accepting pre-orders. I will need to sell a minimum of 75 patches to be able to place the order with the embroidery company. The patch will sell for $6.00 US. Orders of 25 or more will qualify for a discount from me. You will note that Jacques van Oene of spacepatches.nl will be my partner for those of you outside of the North American continent.

If you are interested please download the order form, complete it and mail it to me along with your payment. If I have done business with you before, I will accept your personal check, but I prefer a bank check or money order. No, I am sorry but I do not have PayPal. The payments will be held until I have raised enough to submit the order. If there is a lack of interest, then the checks will be returned.

The other patches in the series will include the following programs, X-15, Project Mercury, Project Gemini, Apollo, and the Space Shuttle Program. More details about those patches will be released at the appropriate time.

Thanks,
Tim

Thank you to all of you who have emailed me with your kind words and intention to order.

As of now we only need to sell 50 more to place the order.

A special offer for those of you associated with a museum or other non-profit organization...

If you place an order for 25 or more I will sell the patch for $3.00 each. That way you can use it as a modest fund raising tool.

Thanks,
Tim

We hit a wall with ordering. I know it's the holidays and the 50th Anniversary isn't until next January so people may not be thinking about this event yet - but I could use some feedback on the lack of response.

My plan was for the patches to be in hand before January. It now looks like that is not going to happen.

Please share your thoughts honestly.

Thanks,
Tim

While I was more than impressed with the design, I just am not a patch collector... never was, not sure why not... after seeing all the different/rare stuff that has been made, probably glad I was not.

Got a few... but never went out of my way to "specialize" in them.

I would be more than happy to order some larger-sized decals that I can put on my car, however, of this design!

Sincere good wishes with your project!

Hi all-

I wanted to let you know that while it took a lot longer than I anticipated, I have finally been able to place the order to have the 50th Anniversary patch made. Thanks in a very large part to Jacques of spacepatches.nl

I should receive them in Mid to late February.

For those of you who haven't ordered yet, I hope this news will provide the motivation you need.

Thanks for your patience and your support.

We received our order from Tim yesterday. Everyone in my shop participated.

Wow! What a great looking patch! But tell us, Tim: What's behind the discrete "TANG" monogram at the bottom? The "T" and "G" I understand.

Thanks for the compliments! It's a great feeling to see that others appreciate your vision.

Actually concerning the initials "TANG" at the base of the launch plume. I've provided the answer in another thread "You might be a Space Geek."

So you don't have to go looking it up. They are my initials. My middle name is Alan. Since it happened to be the same as the first American in space, I decided in 1970 that my Confirmation name should be the same as the first man to walk on the Moon. I still can't beleive that I got "Neil" past the Nuns in school.

So together they spell TANG. ("and what did the astronauts drink?")

Ditto! I just received my patches today. I've been collecting SPACE patches since 1971 and must say this is one of the most beautifully designed and manufactured patches I've ever seen! Likewise, I cannot wait to see the rest of the series! SUPER JOB, TIM!!!
