Does anyone know what on Earth(?) is happening about the latest Apogee Books volume, "Apollo 16: The NASA Mission Reports" (edited by Robert Godwin)? I have bought all of the Apollo volumes and have noticed that there is always a long delay beyond the announced publication date. For example, I placed an order for "Apollo 16" through Amazon about 6 weeks ago. The Amazon site stated that the book was "on order" and would be available in "3-5 weeks." After 5 weeks, Amazon E-mailed me and said there was a delay and it would take ANOTHER 3 - 5 weeks. I am no longer holding my breath. I understood the plan was for Apogee to publish each Apollo report to coincide with the 30th anniversary of each mission, yet they keep missing the anniversaries. I note that they are already advertising the Apollo 17 volume for December. I would bet money that we will still be waiting in February, 2003. If anyone from Apogee Books is reading this, your books are WONDERFUL but your timing is lousy! |

I'm surprised I have to ask this question again (I thought there would be a lot of interest in the Apogee Books series of "Apollo Mission Reports." Maybe it isn't important to anyone else, but I'm annoyed that these books are never published on time. As far back as I can remember, Apogee always miss their publication date. When I ordered "Apollo 16" over 7 weeks ago, Amazon.UK told me "3-5 weeks." 7 weeks later, they are still saying "3-5 weeks." I've checked the main Amazon site and I see they are saying: "Published April 2002. NOT YET PUBLISHED." Then they say "3 - 5 weeks." What is the problem? (Again!) |

I agree completely. Great books, lousy timing. Is it difficult to gather and edit the information? Probably. What ever it is, we are hooked!!! Keep up the good work on the finished product. But, please, please, pretty please, don't let us poor addicted space junkies get too strung out waiting for the next installment . It's not like we don't know how the flights turned out . And we appreciate your attention to detail, and, OK maybe you want a life outside the office. OK have a life outside the office. . . . . . . . OK enough life out side the office. Put the shackle back on your leg, and get back to turning out those marvelous books. We are waiting Ed ------------------ " I collect space, in order to fill the space between my ears." Great books... but, do you ever read them? I do, and to honest, it takes awhile to get through them.I just finished reading the STS-1 debriefing and put that one down for a bit. I just started Gemini 7. This one looks pretty good. I use the X-15 more for reference. I own but have not read through the two Mercury books. I am caught up on all the Apollo. Though, I wait for Apollo 11 part 3. Amazon keeps giving me rubber delivery dates. It goes from a few days, to a month! Either way, I can't keep up with all the reading, plus the other books I want to read! (I also just finished a new NASA SP on the YF-12, great read!) My fiancee must think I am nuts with all the aerospace books piled up next to the bed! ------------------ Warm Regards Douglas Henry Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby! | |
