National Air and Space Museum release
Vice Adm. Donald D. Engen Flight Jacket Night

National Air and Space Society Lecture
November 16, 2017 | 8:00pm
National Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC

Join the National Air and Space Society for our 2017 Vice Adm. Donald D. Engen Flight Jacket Night lecture featuring pilot and astronaut Robert L. "Hoot" Gibson.

Described by Air & Space magazine as "The Man Who's Flown Everything," Robert L. "Hoot" Gibson has logged over 14,000 hours in 150 types of civil and military aircraft. After an exceptional career as a naval aviator, test pilot, aeronautical engineer, and NASA astronaut, he raced for 18 years at the annual Reno Air Races, winning the Unlimited Championship in 2015.

A Top Gun graduate, he is a veteran of five Space Shuttle missions, serving as commander on four of them. In addition, he served as Chief of the Astronaut Office and as Deputy Director, Flight Crew Operations at NASA. After he left NASA, he served as a pilot for Southwest Airlines for ten years. He has been married to fellow astronaut Dr. M. Rhea Sheddon since 1981.

The lecture is for members of the Museum's National Air and Space Society and their guests. There is no charge to attend, but advance reservations are required and seating is limited.

There will also be a buffet reception before the lecture for Society members at the Mercury Friendship 7 level and higher.

Video of Hoot Gibson's evening presentation is not yet online, but here is a talk he and Rhea Seddon gave earlier in the day at the National Air and Space Museum:
In this What's New in Aerospace presentation, Dr. Rhea Seddon and Capt. Robert "Hoot" Gibson talk about life as an astronaut couple. Dr. Seddon, a surgeon and astronaut, flew three space flights and has logged over 700 hours in space. Her husband Hoot Gibson is a pilot and astronaut who has flown five missions and spent over 850 hours in space.

During the program, they will discuss their careers and how they managed marriage and parenting around the demands of going to work in space.

I had tickets, but couldn't go due to family commitments. If you find that the lecture is finally posted, please let me know. Thanks!
