As noted on "Sightings," Apollo 16 LMP Charlie Duke is doing a talk with Q&A in Milton Keynes, England, on Saturday 9th September. Each person attending will receive a signed photo.

Visits to the UK by the surviving six Apollo moonwalkers are becoming increasingly rare, and this certainly seems an opportunity too good to miss. It's worth adding that Charlie is a great public speaker and a 24 carat nice guy.

(For the record, I have no connection with the organisers, but I applaud their efforts, which I hope will be well supported.)

Editor's note: Threads merged.

Flights and hotel all booked - I'm looking forward to meeting Charlie Duke again (and, for the first time, Dotty Duke, the only woman to be photographed on the surface of the Moon).

Any other cSers going?

I have a ticket Geoffrey and look forward to meeting you again there.

Milton Keynes is very close to where I live and although I have met Charlie Duke three times already it is too good a chance to miss. As you have pointed out previously it will become exceedingly rare to see an Apollo astronaut anywhere, yet alone this side of the Atlantic, and we must support those who are able to bring them here if we possibly can.

General Duke has a great and friendly personality and is a superb speaker and I look forward to meeting him again and also his wife Dotty. It will be a privilege for me who until a few years ago never even dreamed I would see any astronauts, yet alone a moonwalker. I am truly grateful.

A wonderful afternoon at Milton Keynes in the presence of Charlie Duke courtesy of the Armchair Astronaut. Lovely to see a lot of familiar faces from other events here, some helping out with this one, many of which are members of cS.

Fourth time I have met Charlie and as always he gave an inspirational lecture with a lot of detail and it was well received by the large audience who gave him a standing ovation. Plenty of chances for everyone to meet him and he was his usual friendly and affable self. At his age he is amazing.

On a personal note I was also very pleased to meet his wife Dorothy. She was delightful and very kindly added her autograph to their shared autobiography 'Moonwalker' which her husband had signed for me back in 2009 at Norwich. We had a pleasant conversation and she seemed genuinely interested in my own reminiscences of the first moon landing and how I had been able to meet so many Apollo astronauts that all those years ago I never dreamed of doing. Thanks to the helpers who arranged this.

We all got a signed photo at the end and thank you to the organisers for a very well arranged event. Also thanks to my wife Sue who treated me to this for my recent birthday.

Great event, Charlie was on excellent form. Nice to see Dottie too. Well organised with a great turn out. Plenty of regulars and familiar faces in attendance, a very full day all round.

I emphatically echo the comments of Kite and Spaceman. A great event, and very well supported. At a rough guess, I would say over 400 people attended Charlie Duke's talk and Q&A. Also a great opportunity to meet old friends.

Apollo 12's cuff checklists with playmate photos placed there by backup crewman Dave Scott I believe beat Dottie Duke to being the first women photographed on the moon.

You mean photographs to be placed on the moon? Or just ventured there, as in the pinups?

Yes, I will concede that the "check-list ladies" beat Dotty Duke to the Moon, but can you actually make out any, ahem, details of the ladies in question?

A great event, I feel fortunate that I was able to attend! Charlie Duke is a great speaker and a wonderful person in general, so that is a major part of the success of the event.

Also, I thought the format was great. I myself didn't have anything signed this time but I always like to see what others bring along.

Then there was the opportunity to have your picture taken, which I think just about all those present took and enjoyed.

The extended time for the lecture and Q&A was wonderful, and for those of us who chose the VIP arrangement the Q&A extended even further.

And finally of course the signed picture that we all received was the icing on the cake.

In short, I had a great time and I would like to give a big thank you to the Armchair Astronaut and his team for bringing this about. I realize that us groupies really depend on those few people and organizations that make events like these possible.

Meeting Charlie Duke is always a thrill. And this time we had icing on the cake in the form of Charlie's wife Dotty.

This was he first time I'd met Dotty and she was as warm and charming as I had imagined her to be.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rowland and Charlie both for their support of Space Lectures.

Rowland was naturally preoccupied with his own event but that did not stop him from plugging November's Space Lectures — Bruce McCandless event. And Charlie who graciously signed a couple of unique items exclusively for the Bruce McCandless post dinner auction.

Thanks guys!
