National Air and Space Museum release
National Air and Space Society Lecture

Vice Adm. Donald D. Engen Flight Jacket Night

Nov. 17, 2016; 8:00 p.m.
National Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC

Join the National Air and Space Society for our 2016 Vice Adm. Donald D. Engen Flight Jacket Night lecture. Featuring astronaut and Coast Guard Captain Daniel C. Burbank, this year's lecture is in celebration of the Centennial of Coast Guard Aviation.

Burbank, the second Coast Guard astronaut, served as mission specialist on Space Shuttle missions STS-106 and STS-115, flight engineer on International Space Station Expedition 29, and commander of Expedition 30. During the 163 days aboard for ISS Expedition 29/30, Burbank and his crew completed dozens of repairs and enhancements to its systems. Burbank has logged a total of 188 days in space, with seven hours, 11 minutes of spacewalk time.

Burbank received his commission from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1985. In 1987, he went through flight training and became an instructor pilot, serving at various Coast Guard stations in North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Alaska. He has a master's degree in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Burbank has logged more than 4,000 flight hours, primarily in Coast Guard helicopters, and has flown more than 2,000 missions, including more than 300 search and rescue missions.

The lecture is for members of the Museum's National Air and Space Society and their guests. Become a member today. There is no charge to attend, but advance reservations are required and seating is limited. Reserve your ticket here. There will also be a buffet reception before the lecture for Society members at the Mercury Friendship 7 level and higher. For more information, email or call 202.633.2603. Flight jacket optional.

I received a "Response Received" and Confirmation Code, but does that mean I have tickets? Is this a new ticket confirmation means and does it mean I have indeed secured tickets?

Apparently the confirmation code is what the museum gives you and then issues an email with details closer to the event.

Anyone going to the lecture?

Anyone get a follow up email explaining how to pick up tickets? I got a confirmation for my ticket request but no further contact about how early to arrive, how tickets would be distributed, or if there will be a meet and greet of any kind after the lecture. Just wondered if anyone else has heard more details.

I didn't really get an answer to the ticket question, but like in previous lectures you go to the Customer Service desk and they check your name off the list.

Currently, there's no confirmation that Capt. Burbank will have a pre/post meet and greet session. There will be no opportunities to obtain autographs.

I got email from the National Air and Space Museum shortly after I posted my message this morning. It says tickets can be picked up starting at 6:30 p.m. Enter on the Independence Ave. side.

There will be a meet and greet after. Sounds like Capt Burbank will not sign autographs but just getting to shake his hand and maybe getting a picture is fine with me.

I have an extra ticket (three actually)! I'll be there waiting in line for them to open the doors at 6:30. I can be identified with my "Twins" jacket. Let me know if you are still interested.

Yes, I am happy to receive one of your tickets. I will be there at 6:30 or so with a black "flight" jacket and a NASA hat with several pins on it. Look forward to meeting you and attending the event. I thank you.

As of this morning it looks like they are still taking ticket requests so maybe it is not sold out. I requested an extra and am waiting to see if a friend can use it. If not I will have an extra. Maybe I will meet some of you folks this evening.

Thank you Jason for the ticket. Very passionate and great presentation by Dan Burbank. Nice to see Bob K, Bryan M, and Mike I at the lecture, too. Dan Burbank did sign autographs after the lecture.

I had a great time last night! I always get extra tickets in the hope that the kids would be interested. Usually I end up having them add them to the extra pile, but this time I was fortunate enough to meet Garry and finally put more faces to names from cS. I also got to see Garry's collection, quite impressive, along with the great stories of their encounters!

In my opinion, I rank Capt Burbank's lecture last night with Jim Lovell's lecture. Both were very engaging, had set backs in getting selected, and best of all had the ability to truly share that spark of passion for what they do and did.
