Here's hoping that the evening ends like a story David Niven talks about regarding a Walt Disney Pinocchio Premiere here at 17.50 and here and here. |

The BBQ venue is the same as before at the Curzon Cinema on George Street about 100ft from the theatre — I will be giving detailed directions and have a volunteer lead the group there. Weather seems to be holding out as well!I'm off to the Airport now - see you all soon. (The David Niven story was excellent! I will have pillow cases standing by!) |

Well done Nigel and his assistants for a great event. An audience over a 100 strong relived the Apollo 11 moon landing and then the history of the U.S. space programme (program) through Charles (Chuck) Deiterich.A silent auction, raffle, lecture and a relaxed autograph signing formed part of a great mixture. These guys really did think on their feet and manage to juggle many and varied problems and find solutions, never just another day at the office. History was made. Chuck was very friendly and had a warm handshake for everyone. Hope you enjoy your short stay in the UK. |

What a fantastic day! Thank you Nigel, you and your assistants did yourselves proud. As stated, Chuck was a very warm fellow and answered the (many) questions with aplomb. His wife was also excellent value for money and kindly took time to talk to both my girlfriend and I. As ever, meeting and chatting with fellow fans (fanatics?) was just as good as the actual event. It was truly fascinating to talk to the author David Woods and his wife although it did leave me with a massive inferiority complex as his knowledge on all things Apollo is just awesome, awesome (in-joke there). Meeting Ken W and his entourage was a real pleasure and it was good to talk to Ken informally. His passion for Barcelona FC took me a little by surprise though!! Meeting OWL for the first time was what I would describe as both an 'eye-opener' and a pleasure. This man obviously picked up on my insatiable appetite for space gossip... and ran with it! Good to meet you OWL! Special mention goes out to both the 'new kid on the block', Andy 'Big Calves' Tudor and Big Colin F for his excellent questions to Chuck. Rick M was sadly missed! Thank you so much Nigel and can't wait for the next one now... |

Thanks to Nigel and team for a very enjoyable event. Chuck certainly seemed to be enjoying himself as much as everyone enthralled by his stories of the history making Apollo missions. looking forward to next year. |

A very big thank you for all the kind words. Chuck was really blown away by all the support and interest in Apollo. He had wonderful things to say about everyone and left Sheffield very happy (He is still in the UK on a little holiday with his lovely wife Betty). I feel extremely lucky to have spent time with him, he was even kind enough to try to teach me some Orbital Mechanics! I am much happier with how the event went this year, the auction still needs work but it's all a learning experience and next year we'll have it spot on. The lecture was filmed and I will be making it available to everyone on Youtube - I will update when it is on there. For those who weren't at the BBQ - I am taking a break for a few months as I am moving house but Something Astro will return and I hope you'll be coming along again! I really cannot thank you all enough for supporting this event, Thank you so so much! |
