Anyone planning on attending the Apollo 16 40th Anniversary event which includes a bus tour with an Apollo astronaut at KSC on the 14th? I am attending the ASF event that evening and I wonder if there is time for both activities. |

Because the KSC tour and panel discussion ends so late I think the only way to do both would be to do the tour dressed for the event Saturday night (probably too hot to do that and still have a presentable suit) and then stay at the Saturn V Center after the panel discussion (not sure if you would be allowed to do that). The bus back from the Saturn V Center will be enroute to the Visitors' Center at the same time that the bus from the Courtyard will be enroute to the Saturn V Center, so no way you could make it back to the hotel, change clothes, and then go. It appears that the scheduling of the two events was done to make it so the astronauts could do both -- which certainly makes sense. I think even if you skipped the panel discussion and took a different KSC bus back to the Visitors' Center, you would not have time to get to the hotel and change before leaving for the event that night. |

Thanks for the input - that's kinda what I thought. I will stick to the main event! |

I asked Nicole at ASF about this, and she told me that there is no way to get back from the ASVC to the hotel in time. So as John points out if you just stayed at ASVC to wait for the main event you'd be left with the problem of a gnarly-looking suit. |

It was great - including an unexpected visit by Neil Armstrong, which most of us didn't know about until we boarded the buses. |

Another wonderful event. Jack Schmitt could not make it, sadly. But as mentioned above, Neil was there, looked like he had a great time. I know I did; I sat at his table. The discussion we had made my day, week, month, year, and life. Will have a photo album up on Flickr tomorrow but now... sleep. Kudos to the ASF team. Wow. |

Neil gave a wonderful tribute to the Apollo 16 crew. He is a master in front of a group of people (and maybe even landing a LM on the lunar surface). Jim Lovell did a masterful job as emcee. Charlie is such a great guy, as well as his family members who attended. Linn, Nicole, et al did a wonderful job as always. I sat with Dick Gordon at dinner. Another great human being! Unfortunately he hardly had a chance to chew his food because someone kept pumping out questions. And yes, the Apollo 12 crew really did play "Sugar Sugar" on the way to the moon. And danced to it too! |

Nice slide show Mike. I thoroughly enjoyed the affair and continue to be amazed at the access we have to the astronauts after all of these years. I'm also amazed at how good natured the astronauts are. Good friends and an amazing setting made for a great experience. |

Another "A+" ASF affair and I second the comments above. The Saturday event - and the weekend/people/conversations that surrounded it - all made for a great time. |

Added some more, wanted to show what the VIP guests received. The ASF had a special patch made; a signed and inscribed copy of Moonwalker, A ceramic [?] Apollo 16 badge/pin. An Apollo 16 cover. These were very pleasant surprises. Centerpieces were LEM models signed by Duke, Haise, and Mitchell. I also feel some weird reason to point that, though the slideshow shows my placecard next to Neil's, I was actually one seat away. I switched them, took the picture, then switched them back to correct. I feel no guilt as fifteen minutes later someone had swiped it, and it sure wasn't me! I believe the winner of the ASF auction for 'Be an Honorary Astronaut at Apollo 16 Soiree' was seated with Neil. Not 100% on that. |

Remarkable! Wonder if there's any chance Neil will make the Apollo 17 Dinner. Nicole seemed to believe he would try to make all of them. Sure hope so! |

This was my first ASF event I attended and man was it great! I really enjoyed talking with the Astronauts, listening to stories of the glory days, talking some politics with Dick Gordon and Gene Cernan, meeting Neil Armstrong and on and on. It was also nice to meet fellow enthusiasts including Mike and David above! |

Thanks to Mike Black for the great photos. Looks like it was a fun event. I'm going to try for the Apollo 17 event, if and when. |

I don't know of any videos posted publicly, but ASF will be sending out a DVD of the event to those who attended. |
