Though the earlier promoted plans by Space Connections seem to have been canceled, the STS-119 crew will still be visiting the United Kingdom. The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester will host an evening presentation by Discovery's astronauts on July 6. Although the museum's website doesn't mention the event yet, tickets are now available through Ticketmaster. Thanks to Chris Taggart for the Sighting! |

Booked my ticket, it so happens I am lecturing in Manchester on Tuesday and Wednesday that week so it works out great.I'll be staying at the Manchester Denton Premier Inn on Monday & Tuesday evening if anyone wants to meet up and travel to the event together. The Museum is only 5 miles from the hotel and the museum has on-site parking. Any other UK cS'ers going? |

I notice they are scheduled to be in London on the 4th July, wonder if they will be attending or even participating in Buzz Aldrin's talk at the London Literature Festival.

If that page is accurate, then Ricky Arnold will not be joining them on this trip... |

Perhaps Manchester's favorite son Frank Sidebottom will also make a star guest appearance... I would love to see the crew's faces... |

I have been informed that they are not taking part in any public events in London over the weekend of 4th to 5th July. |

I know it is at the discretion of the astronauts but what do you guys think to the possibility of a photo opportunity and also signings at this event? |

Great night at the MOSI and an opportunity for both the pose with an astronaut and an autograph if you were quick off the mark. I managed to get an autograph of each astronaut. I always carry a few extra photos and pass them on to anyone who looks interested. A young lady in the vicinity of Commander Lee Archambault declined my offer of a crew photo replying "Thank you very much but he's my dad"! Nice to see Ollie, Rob, Andy G, Steve Procter and I'm sure a few others but I know them from sight but not name. Thanks to the organisers and the astronauts. |

Yes, agreed, what a great evening. I too managed to get all the astronauts autographs and also a picture with Dominic Antonelli, Steven Swanson and also Lee Archambault but unfortunately did not manage to have my photo taken with Joseph Acaba and John Philips but as was said, you had to be quick.I was wearing My collectSPACE Polo shirt in the hope that I might get to meet some of you great guys on here but never did. Oh well, maybe next time. Will try and post some pics tomorrow. |

Just wanted to echo what Nick said earlier about a great evening at the MOSI. A very interesting and entertaining presentation with a good bit of banter between the crew members.Following the Q&A session (most coming from a keen bunch of Cub Scouts) the crew retired to the back of the hall for a 'mingling' session. A bit like a party without the drinks!! We moved amongst them (and them us) for a mixture of chats, photo opportunities and signatures. You had to be a bit nippy on your feet though!! Nice to see Nick and Bryar as always and meet Andy Green for the first time. Also Rob W and Ollie and Nick Yates. Cheers also to the other members of the 'Trans-Pennine Expeditionary Force' Paul and Dave with whom I dined famously at a McDonald's before hitting the M62 and home. I've posted my signed photos on my Picture Trail pages (Shuttle album) and the photos of mingling crewmembers (In-Person album) so feel free to call by for a look. Thanks for the team at MOSI for putting the event on, ISSET for setting it up and of course the crew of STS-119, gentlemen all. |

Was nice to meet everyone again, it was a good evening at the MOSI.Rob W, Ollie and I also attended the astronaut dinner last night in Skipton which was a great event too, nice to chat to the guys and great to meet and chat to Ken Ham again. "Tony" Antonelli told me he was heading for Europe to fly weather recon for STS-127 and Ken said he was heading back to KSC to do crew ingress for STS-127. Nice to see them both having future flight assignments. Thanks to the rest of the crew too for great informal chats last night, Jo, John, Swanny and Lee, top guys. |

I think it's s*ds law, I spend half my working life trying to avoid going to places like Padiham and Skipton through work and the one time it would have been good to be sent up there there's no work reason to go! |

Yes, Ken Ham, was at the dinner too with his wife, I know he wasn't part of the STS-119 crew but he was at the event as he had been at another series of events in the UK. Having met Ken in Norwich during the STS-124 visit it was nice to meet him again. Ricky couldn't make it this time round which was a shame, and Koichi is of course still on ISS. It was also very nice to see some of the astronaut families in attendance too. A great evening - Tony and I even wore matching ties. |
