This has probably already been on your calendar for weeks, and if it wasn't then I'm creating some friendly competition for MY seat... but registration for the drawing for tickets to the July 20 NASM event opened today. Just follow the link on the May 8 post back there. |

Thanks. Indeed it has been on my calendar. I've put my hat in the ring as it were. Let's hope there are seats enough for all of us on cS. Good luck. |

And let's hope that if you get tickets in the lottery, you actually end up inside the venue. NASM has been known to "bump" people out of the primary venue at the last minute due to last-minute ticket requests from sponsors. It's tough to complain since the tickets are free, but lots of people travel from a LONG ways away for these events, and they might make different decisions if they knew they would not be in the venue. Still, that falls under the heading of "things I cannot control"... |

I've also seen the other extreme - people not showing up to collect their tickets and then 25-50 people being moved from the overflow area into the theater. |

I sure hope to be in DC for the 40th. If I do not get tickets to the 7/19 event though there is not as much incentive. I suppose DC still would be a good place to be for the anniversary anyway. Perhaps some other events will be going on to commemorate Apollo 11. |

Incidentally, you can also sleep over on the Hornet the night of July 24 (as well as other nights during the summer). This is a totally separate event from the one mentioned above, but I think it would be pretty cool -- especially on that date! At one point I thought my younger son would be out there at that time visiting my sister, and I was thinking about sending them. |

I just called the number on their web site and reserved a copy of each book for pickup that day. They only asked for my name and contact number but did say that I will need to get them signed. They also indicated they would have signed copies for sale after the event but we know that sometimes those who answer the phone do not always have the correct information so I would not count on that. |

I was wondering if anyone knew when the NASM ticket office will let people on standby know if they are able to get overflow or theatre seating...are they doing this on an as available basis or are they waiting to let people know closer to the date? It does not mention anything on the email about this. Still hoping to get tickets! |

From a NASA solicitation dated June 19: NASA Headquarters (HQ), Office of Strategic Communications, plans to host the NASA 40th Anniversary of Apollo "Salute to Apollo: The Kennedy Legacy", July 18, 2009, at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with the National Symphony Orchestra. The Kennedy Center is renowned worldwide for its unique premiere location for distinctive special events. As the national center for the performing arts, the Kennedy Center honors the memory of President Kennedy and since President Kennedy is largely responsible for the Apollo program and human's first steps on the moon it is crucial for this particular performance to take place at the Kennedy Center. The Center has agreed to host the National Symphony Orchestra to perform a concert of works including Holst's "The Planets", popular, film and television music about space. |
