Andy Green, in association with Norwich School, presents an evening with Charlie Duke: Apollo 16 Lunar Module Pilot and the 10th man to walk on the moon.Scheduled for February 6, 2009, this is the first of what is hoped will be two such moonwalker events in 2009. Charlie will give an illustrated lecture followed by a Q&A session. There will be an opportunity for a photograph with Charlie and an autograph following the presentation. Tickets cost just £20 each and are limited to 500 seats. The venue is currently being finalised but is likely to be in Norwich; doors will open at 7:30 p.m. for an 8:00 p.m. start. Confirmation of venue and times will follow shortly. All enquiries and bookings are to be directed to Andy Green at: arg@freenet.co.uk Charlie was always Andy's first choice astronaut speaker for 2009. He has a reputation as a wonderful ambassador for the space program which, coupled with a wicked sense of humour and his distinctive Texan delivery, guarantees a night to remember. Be sure to bring something for Charlie to sign. Photos and other memorabilia will be available to purchase from a dealer on the night. Andy Green has had a close working relationship with Norwich School for 4 years now and it is a credit to his connections, professionalism and dogged determination that he has organised such and event in a matter of weeks! Book early! |

It will be a great evening.Charlie is a great speaker and a really lovely guy for people to meet. It is very kind of him to agree to come over for us especially with all the other Apollo events that are going to be happening in 2009. we are privileged to have him visit. As he was a moonwalker and one of the Apollo 11 CapCom's, I have no doubt he will be an even more busy man in 09. It's nice he has agreed to come and do it. I am pleased I have been able to organise it. Roll on Feb! |

Thats great, let me know how you get on. I am just finalising the venue and a few other little things and then we can take payments and we will then send out tickets a few weeks before the event. |

No offence intended to anyone in the fine city of Norwich, but it's not exactly in the centre of things. I suppose the easiest approach for me would be by train from Stansted Airport, via Cambridge, but can anyone familiar with East Anglia confirm that trains do run from Stansted Airport to Norwich? |

It is in Norwich in order to give another part of the UK a chance to meet an Apollo legend, and the sponsors are based in that city hence us choosing it.I am sure you will enjoy the evening once you get there by whatever means. Norwich has an airport so you may even be able to fly there from Ireland but you would have to check. I am just waiting for the lecture venue to give me their confirmation and once I have that I will let you all know and you will be able to order tickets directly from me. |

Just to update everyone, ticket sales ticking along nicely at the moment, but please make sure, if you do want to attend that you get yours soon and don't leave it until the last minute as you may be disappointed. |

So am I! I've been lucky enough to meet Duke on quite a few occasions but I havent yet heard one of his lectures live. It's took this long to find out I can't go, I'd rather have had an announcement saying all the tickets had gone than this. Still, my loss is someone else's gain. |

Can't wait, Andy! Just a quickie: how are the photo ops going to be organised? Will it just be a free-for-all, or have you got a queueing system? |

After the lecture, Charlie will sit on the stage with a desk and chair and you will file past with everyone else who wants to say hello to him and get an autograph. It is being done that way to allow everyone to say hello. I cant guarantee that he will have time to stand up for everyone to have their picture taken as we will have over 300 guests and time will not allow that but you can kneel down at the side of him and do it that way if you really need a picture. |

Anyone purchasing tickets after today (29th January) will be able to pick them up on the door of St Andrew's Hall where we will have a ticket desk.We don't want to risk sending any tickets out now in the mail just in case they get lost in the postal system. People who purchased tickets up to Monday this week will still have their sent out. |

Might be too late, but for those who are using google maps to find directions it comes up with St Andrews Hall in Thorpe to the west of Norwich. The event is being held in St Andrews Hall in the centre of Norwich.Regards, Paul

Here's the link.Incidentally, there's a big multi-story really close: just go past St Andrew's Hall (on your right) and turn right down Duke Street at the traffic lights. |

Just got back, was a really great evening, the only niggle was the poor lighting through most of the talk. Didn't spoil the enjoyment, and was nice of him to sign one item for everyone there, there was a huge queue.Best Regards, Paul. |

After braving what turned out to be a five hour road journey, hindered by snow, two carriageway hold ups and one diversion we arrived in Norwich. none the worse for wear.Congratulations to the organisers for a very relaxed and well organised event.A big thankyou to Charlie Duke for making it over and delivering his talk and video (I wish he had worn his blue flight suit). I'm still a kid at heart but I don't expect astronauts to turn up in a full spacesuit with helmet. Well done Andy Green for getting us in there too. Nice to see so many people, there were many space event regulars and unfortunately I do not know them all by name. Andy & Rick, Ken Willoughby and a few other faces from Pontefract, the Scottish couple from Autographica, the man from Atlanta, Dave & Linda Bryant, the space clergymen, Gary from Autographica et al. A really enjoyable evening - Charlie was a good speaker. I liked the account of his travel expense claim for the moon mission!I wondered if anyone had a decent photo of Charlie speaking that they could send me, with the A16 badge behind him? I only had my mobile and took a couple of poor shots (I’m not sure how to attach them from my hard drive, which is probably just as well!) Paul
