LA Daily News: Five more 'best of the best' slated for Lancaster's Aerospace Walk of Honor An F-15 test pilot, the first female space shuttle pilot and commander, an Apollo 11 astronaut, one of the original seven Mercury astronauts and a pilot who flew the C-141 on its first transcontinental flight will be inducted into Lancaster's Aerospace Walk of Honor.The honorees are Irving Burrows, retired Col. Eileen Collins, retired Maj. Gen. Michael Collins, retired Col. Gordon Cooper and retired Col. Joe Schiele. The five will be inducted during a ceremony Sept. 20, bringing the number of pilots with monuments along Lancaster Boulevard to 95. Burrows, Eileen Collins and Schiele will attend, and Michael Collins will make an appearance via video. Cooper, who died in 2004 at age 77, will be represented by his wife. |
