... those of you who missed this today missed a treat. Buzz and Lois Aldrin came for the official opening, and Buzz gave a brief talk, posed for photos with the spacecraft, etc.

It's impressive to see a flown Mercury, Gemini and Apollo spacecraft all in a row and viewable in one glance. Also to look carefully inside Gemini 11 (it used to be up on the ceiling).

David Seidel from JPL was also there, with an Apollo 14 moonrock, and the Surveyor scoop brought back on Apollo 12 (used to be on display at JPL, but has been out of sight in a safe for many years. You can examinine it very closely, something never possible for the JPL display).

And, of course, TK Mattingly's Apollo 16 suit, an Atlas engine and other goodies make this place well worth a visit, or re-visit.

"Magnificent Desolation" is playing every hour... first time I had seen it. Despite the inexcusable "Jack Swigart" onscreen misspelling, an incredible, moving movie.

The Festival of Flight continues at the center tomorrow.

... today also included a booksigning by Ed Buckbee of his book with Schirra. A perfect souvenir for those coming out of the IMAX movie.

Hi Phill,

Yes, you'll definitely want to visit this place. On a good day, only about half an hour's drive from where the Apollo spacecraft were built!

There are some other good local sights if you have time - The Apollo 11 crew stars on Hollywood Boulevard, and the large Shuttle statue (memorial to Onizuka) in Little Tokyo:

- are ones that immediately come to mind.

FF,

you haven't told us what place you're talking about. All I see in the post is
ATSP in LA. Could you be more specific for those of us who need interpretation.

Thanks,
Vince
