He was ESRO Director in late 60's and early 70'2 and was famous for his work on Black Holes.

I met him very, very briefly at a space talk I did at Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge way way back in early 70's.

What sort of employment opportunies exist on black holes? I would expect that the work environment would eliminate chances for upward mobility. One long perpetual crunch period.

Hi there

When I was 17 I had the honour of attending a 2 week series of lectures on Physics at the University of Sydney (a big deal for a boy who grew up on a pig farm in rural New Zealand). Sir Herman Bondi was the keynote speaker at this conference.

He was a true academic, great thinker, and a loss to the scientific community at large.
