Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center Press Release

Two men intimately involved with the Apollo 13 mission are set to appear at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center on Saturday, May 7.

Apollo 13 Flight Controller Sy Liebergot and actor Clint Howard, who played Liebergot in his brother Ron Howard’s academy-award winning film Apollo 13, will be available to answer questions and sign autographs for the general public from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be a special showing of Apollo 13: The IMAX Experience at 5 p.m. for the general public.

"No where else on earth are visitors able to immerse themselves in a total Apollo 13 experience as they interact with our special Apollo 13 guests, view the exhibit highlighting the Cosmosphere's role in the making of Apollo 13, see the feature-length film on the IMAX® screen, and then view the actual Odyssey in our Apollo Gallery," said Jeff Ollenburger, president and CEO.

Liebergot, sitting at the EECOM (electrical, environmental, sequential systems engineer) console at Mission Control, Johnson Space Center, Houston, was responsible for making the call that ended Apollo 13’s mission to the moon’s surface and started the fight for survival. Copies of Liebergot’s book, Apollo EECOM: Journey of a Lifetime will be available for purchase in the Cosmosphere’s gift shop.

Howard, who has acted in dozens of movies and television shows from childhood through his adult life, will join Liebergot to share their movie-making and real-life Apollo 13 experiences.

Tickets for the two-hour Apollo 13: The IMAX Experience are priced the same as other IMAX(R) presentations offered at the Cosmosphere: $8 for adults and $7.50 for seniors (60+) and children (5-12).

For more information about activities and IMAX® films showing at the Cosmosphere visit www.cosmo.org or call 620.662.2305 or 800.397.0330.
