Museum to get $1M in federal funding

The Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton will get $1 million in federal money to help finance a major renovation of its space exhibit, scheduled to open in 2007.

The planned overhaul of the Hampton museum's space gallery, which has not been formally announced, comes on the heels of a $6.4 million renovation of aviation exhibits that showcase the history of 100 years of flight.

The new project, which is expected to cost about $7.8 million, will renovate the entire second floor of the museum to update space exhibits that were conceived more than a dozen years ago.
