I don't know if anyone else saw it or not, but a two man crew is going for an altitutde world record in an open gondola on a baloon, with T-6 hours and counting as of this writing. Here is the news article: http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=570&u=/nm/20030901/sc_nm/leisure_balloonists_dc&printer=1

And here is the crew's website: http://www.qinetiq1.com/index.html

Good luck, gang!!!

Thanks for the links Richard. I'll be following this tomorrow. If everything goes on schedule it looks like they'll reach the peak at about 7am CDT Wednesday.

Sorry guys,

The attempt was cancelled at about 7.45am this morning here. I had to leave for work but the reporter was talking about a leaking seam on the balloon. Attempt apparently put back to next year.

The balloon envelope sprang a tear along a seam.
As a consequence, launch is off and is on hold until next year now when repairs completed.
