In two weeks time I shall meeting the first man who ever walked in space - Alexei Leonov. Has anyone met him, and if so what is he like? Any tips for me to make my meeting with him more memorable? Does anyone know how to say "Pleased to meet you" in Russian"?

Any help would be appreciated.

I will of course report on my encounter after the event.

The nickname "Buzz" would fit on Leonov very well too. The small, balding cosmonaut whizzes around a lot, and you'll have difficulty holding his attention. But he's a charming guy and will not refrain from changing a few words with you, especially when you can address his space achievements. He speaks English quite well, so need to brush up your Russian. He is a good autographer too, in case you want to try.

Good luck - and tell us about your encounter!

Jürgen

Hi Jurgen

Thanks for the advice. With only 6 days to go I am getting very excited. By all accounts he should be sitting down at a table to sign whatever you may want signed. So hopefully I shall be able to have his full attention. Apollo Soyuz has always been a favourite mission of mine, but it appears nowhere else on collectSPACE. It realy interests me because it is the flight that Deke Slayton finally got to go on, which I think was great. He waited a long time to get up into space.

Not only Alexei Leonov will be there but also in attendance will be Richard Gordon, Ed Mitchell, Ed Gibson, Jerry Carr, Rick Searfoss, and 2 other cosmonauts whose names I just cannot recall. But it is Alexei Leonov that I am looking forward to meeting. The first man to walk in space! For Great Britain, it will be a great show! I shall report all after the event. Unfortunately I still haven't figured out how to produce a website, but I shall try to do so, so that I can post some photographs of my astronaut/cosmonaut enncounter.
