I've seen Official NASA cachet covers for the Fire Prevention Week in 1966 (October 9-15) and 1967 (October 8-14). There's a cover (on eBay) with an October 4, 1971 Kennedy Space Center machine cancel and a 1967 Fire Prevention Week Official NASA cachet. Is this another Official NASA cachet cover for the Fire Prevention Week in 1971 even though it uses the 1967 Official NASA cachet or is this a cover that had the 1967 Official NASA cachet that was cancelled to commemorate the National Fire Prevention Week in 1971 but is not considered a KSC Official NASA cachet cover? |

From what I can see from the red-colored cachet that it seems to be an official NASA cachet (ONC), however, it was never used again by KSC-NASA for any further ONC applications. More likely Randy the cachet envelope had been applied by that same ONC earlier in Oct. 1967, but for some reason, the cover was never posted. So to better answer your question, it would be a no, in that KSC-NASA did not issue any sort of ONC for their Oct. 1971 Fire Prevention Week.Going back to the original ONC-usage in Oct. 1967, I have two to three ONC's with KSC postal dates of Oct. 9 and 11 of that same year. I did have another date, but it appears one of my only three ONC's of this event was reported missing from my original ONC collection about ten or so years ago. |

Thanks for the reply Ken. I had the same conclusion as you but was interested in what other collectors thought about this cover. Although it's an interesting cover I don't know how collectible it is. I guess if someone is collecting official NASA cachet oddities it would be a cover to include in their collection. |

... well, it's current bid is $41, and there's still a day and a bit to go. Quite expensive just for an oddity. |

I found another one in my image files like this also dated Oct. 4, 1971. |
