The successful Japanese internet retailer and art collector Yusaku Maezawa has commissioned Elon Musk's SpaceX to fly himself, eight artists and two astronauts around the moon in a Starship. The first Starship launch took place on April 20, 2023. Since then, SpaceX has made numerous improvements and is waiting for a new launch clearance. The dearMoon website still announces the moon orbit mission for this year. However, the 8-day space flight is likely to be postponed to 2024 or 2025. The Gmünder Weltraumfreunde designed a special dearMoon postmark for Saturday, November 11th, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the rooms of the VÖPh philatelic association, Getreidemarkt 1, 1060 Vienna. For this event the Gmünder Weltraumfreunde are issuing three blocks, each with three personalized stamps with portraits of the currently well-known astronauts. Like last year, the Austrian Post will issue a Philatelic Day stamp. Each mint block costs 10 €, a cover with a block and special dear Moon postmark 11 €. Actual postage will be added. Please, send mail orders to me as chairman of the Gmünder Weltraumfreunde.
