The USPS has announced that the James Webb Space Telescope stamp will be released on Sept. 8, 2022. The first day of issue dedication will be in Washington, DC (20066), though whether there is a ceremony (or the ceremony is virtual due to COVID-19 restrictions) is still to be announced. |

Since I expressed interest in attending the release of the Webb stamp, one of the PR contacts at the USPS sent me an email confirming the release event will be a public event. As Robert mentioned, it takes place on Thursday, September 8. The location is the National Postal Museum in D.C. (across the street from Union Station). Start time is 11:00 a.m. I do plan to attend, but I've got an 11:50 a.m. train to catch, so I might have to leave a bit early. More to come in September. |

I was fortunate enough to attend the release event. Well done, USPS! Things started off on the main floor (street level) with sales of stamps, first day covers and artwork plus a table for cancellation. On the lower level, the main event included multiple video screens and seating for attendees. I'd estimate there were 150-200 people total, with about 1/3 of that number consisting of media and VIPs. Everyone that attended received a few free items, namely, an envelope, program and pin. This was my first stamp release event, and I'm looking forward to more. |
