I used to be quite active in the rocketmail hobby, but it has been a while and I no longer know who the experts are in the field. So I am scaning this cover and asking for help in identifying it.

It is postmarked White Plains, NY on Aug. 24, 1969, the apparent day and location of the cover's flight. It is supposed to have come from the collection of Joe Nagl.

It is not listed in the EZ or Kauffamn's Catalogs. The only notation on the reverse is a small strip of paper with "12/2-7" on it glued inside the flap.

Does anyone know if this is a valid rocket mail cover? — Paul

Paul is asking if it was really flown in a rocket as an authentic piece of rocket mail or a commemorative not-flown "rocket mail." Think of the flown covers, cards or stamps versus unflown covers, cards or stamps in the EZ catalog.

There are many covers that say "rocket mail" that never saw the inside of a rocket.

Thanks, yeknom-ecaps for clarifying my post. Also, if anyone has a cover addressed to M. Munoz, or flown by Joe Nagl, or that has similar mysterious numbers like "12/2-7" on a slip of paper pasted inside the flap, let me know about it. It may give me a clue to further research on this one. Paul

Late Joe Nagl had an amazing astrophilately and rocket mail collection including a letter flown on Discoverer 17 spy satellite in 1960. As I remember, he lived in Scarsdale.

All times are CT (US)
