Have always considered this to be one of the earlier space stamps. Wonder if this is recognized as such; because it is after all only a rocket pencil.

The First Day of Issue for this was a mere three days before Sputnik, October 1, 1957. As a former photo-journalist have always had an affinity to the artwork on this.

I would certainly say a pencil rocket is a space stamp! I do like the artwork .... I'll need to add that as a FDC to find!
