Royal Mail will issue a set of six stamps to commemorate Sir Patrick Moore's TV programme "The Sky at night" on the BBC.
Sir Patrick Moore has been hosting his star gazing programme ‘The Sky at Night’ for an incredible 50 years, making it the longest running show in television history with its original presenter. From the moon landing to our planet’s close encounters with comets, every celestial event has been covered, and guests over the years have included astronaut Neil Armstrong, and Queen guitarist and astronomy graduate Brian May. Sir Patrick has chosen six spectacular celestial objects to feature on these stamps. He has also written the Presentation Pack, in which he explains how he devised the Caldwell Catalogue numbers featured on the stamps, as well as providing a history of ‘The Sky at Night’ programme.
