The 10th annual New York Space Unit Chapter Postcard and Stamp Show will be held on March 20, 2004 in Ridgewood, NY (Queens). The show will be held at the First German Sports Club, 60-60 Metropolitan Ave., Ridgewood, NY 11385. The show will open at 10:00 am and close at 4:00 pm. Then the survivors usually head out to a nearby restaraunt for dinner. The Post Office will be there with a special cancel honoring the Mercury 13 - The 1960 Mercury Women Astronaut Candidates. Admission is free.

For those of you who haven't been to one of these shows, it is a great time to meet fellow collectors and buy/trade space covers and postcards at reasonable prices. Many of the folks bring other space memorabilia too! It's a great time, and I know I'll be trekking up there from DC. Come join us!!!

I sure wish I was able to attend. to all who have not joined, I would recommend it highly! I have really enjoyed my first 2 mailings.

"The Post Office will be there with a special cancel honoring the Mercury 13 - The 1960 Mercury Women Astronaut Candidates"

what are the chances of getting one of these covers, and how could I order one?

Evan,

Cacheted covers are sold by the organizes at $1.50 plus SASE. Contact Carmine Torrisi at ctorrisi1@juno.com

You can also send your own stamped covers to the post office:
USPS Postmaster, Space Unit Station, Flushing Main Post Office, 41-65 Main St., Flushing, NY 11355-9998, USA.

How about a post-show report on the gathering? I would like to know how things went; who showed up, etc. Dennis Dillman are you seeing this? (

Thanks John, for the subtle reminder!

The show went well. I think Carmine sold all of the tables, and most of the folks that got a table did well (except for me). But we were all there to have fun first and if we made a little money, even better.

We took a group photo of all the Space Unit members there and there must have been about 15 - 20. The ones I remember were Steve Durst, Sam Stein, Carmine Torrisi, Billy Kowalczyk, Bob Glass, Bob Marinaro, Victor Tan, Phil Rubin, Bob Link, Dave Silcox, Mark Bloom, and a bunch more. There will be a full report and a cover signed by everyone in the Astrophile.

The Post Office was there and had a great pictorial postmark honoring the "Mercury 13". The SU had a cachet for them too. I think Carmine has extra covers for $1.50 or $2 each.

We all went out to eat after the show at an Italian restaraunt named Bamonte's in Brooklyn. Wow, best Italian I've ever had, and lots of laughs and "shop talk".

Many thanks to Carmine, Sam, and Billy for pulling these together every year. Can't wait for next year...

All times are CT (US)
