I recently acquired a few of the cheaper, lesser quality Apollo 11 Beta cloth patches. I want to experiment with one by sewing the edges to replicate the "mission-ready" patch which I have occasionally seen for sale or recreated for movie/TV production purposes.

Does anyone have any experience doing this? Are there any recommendations for how to do it, if it can be done at home on a sewing machine, what thread could be used? I'm looking to create some type of display for the wall. Thanks for any help.

I'm wondering the same thing. I've got some of the same beta cloth patches. My original thought was to take one to the tailor in town and see if they could do it. Sounds like a simple task, really, just a handful of seams.

Also, I'm curious: there must be some sort of order to the folding of the "flaps" before sewing. Any ideas?

This excellent site includes detailed close up images of the reverse side of flown beta cloth patches. This should help.
