I recently joined this great site, and after making a few random posts, I thought it was about time that I introduced myself. I've been a space enthusiast for most of my life, ever since my dad bought me an Airfix Lunar Module model when we visited Jodrell Bank in the 70s. Most of my enthusiasm has been limited to reading, documentaries and the occasional model making. Having collected WWII allied insignia for nearly 20 years, last year I decided to combine both passions and started to collect space patches, having stumbled across Chris Spain's excellent Crew Patches website. My focus is on original to the period crew and souvenir patches. One day I'd love to acquire some signed and/or flown patches, but I'm taking things one step at a time. I live in Cheshire in the UK, which makes collecting a bit of a challenge as there is very little "in country." Many US sellers won't ship to the UK and if they do, shipping and taxes can double the costs of the patch (don't even get me started on eBay's Global Shipping Programme)! I've managed to make an impressive start to my collection with full sets of raw back Lion Brothers, AB Emblem and Space Spin Off; and some of the "easier" original crew patches. I'd welcome any correspondence from fellow collectors, especially any tips from UK collectors. Thanks for the help on this forum so far and happy hunting. — Paul |

Welcome, always glad to see those outside the USA join and give their perspective of today's active spaceflight environment. |

Welcome aboard Paul! I joined cS last year, after many years of being captivated by the world's space programs. This is a great group, they are knowledgeable and most helpful! |

Many thanks for the welcome and to those kind folks that have got in touch so far. I should have pointed out my main focus (for now at least) is Apollo, although I hope to dabble into Gemini when I win the lottery! |

It is great to see new people show interest and share information about the Apollo, all other space history, and today's space happenings. |

Thank you all for your support and direct messages. I've still not managed to get in touch with any other UK collectors though, we are very thin on the ground. If anyone has any recommendations for UK or European dealers in period Apollo Crew and souvenir patches I'd love to hear them. |

There are quite a few space patch collectors in the UK and mainland Europe but there are no vintage space patch dealers as-such anywhere in the world that I know of.The closest you might get would be the Canadian seller user32546 on eBay. Despite the dodgy name this is a knowledgeable collector who sells an impressive number of vintage crew patches. I don't know where they come from but they are the real thing. In the US there are a couple of dealers who also tend to get vintage crew patches in their regular auctions: |

Thanks Chris. Yes I know George, he has been great to me in starting out. About 70% of my collection has come from him, a real pleasure to deal with and good prices (especially shipping). |
