The U.S. Air Force 45th Space Wing is the first to debut an embroidered patch for SpaceX's Crew Dragon Demonstration Mission-1 (DM-1), an uncrewed test flight to the International Space Station.

DM-1 will launch atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Interestingly, the NASA version I've found uses photo images and has differences in the streaks as well.

The Crew Dragon Demo-1 patch is now available via the Air Force Space & Missile Museum.

It looks like there might be multiple suppliers of the Demo-1 patch (similarly to the first Falcon Heavy patch). There are slight differences between the photo of the patch above and the patch as scanned by the Air Force Space & Missile Museum:

The two are identical. The apparent differences are due to lighting and the one that I photographed being slightly bent backwards. Overlaying the two (and mildly warping to accommodate the physical bend) show the stitching lining up perfectly).

Looks like the Air Force Space & Missile Museum is out of stock already.

This is interesting, because this patch was a SpaceX design. To date AB Emblem has only produced NASA designs for commercial missions.

This could be a one off (as NASA did not design a patch for Demo-1), or perhaps a sign of things to come.

It has been bought to my attention that AB Emblem have changed the SKU patch design number on their latest production run version of their SpaceX Demo-1 patches.
  • 424227 A-B Emblem 06/2020 (USA)
  • 425326 A-B Emblem Made In USA 0972020 ('7' used instead of '/' error, also has different or error SKU patch design number)
  • 424227 A-B Emblem Made In USA 0972020 ('7' used instead of '/' error. '7' is larger font)
  • 425326 A-B Emblem Made In USA 02/21 20
  • 425326 A-B Emblem Made In USA 03/21 20
I've not seen or had reported any of these patches with July or August date codes on them.

Updated on 29th March 2023: Two more production run dates have been found for February and March 2021, both with the error SKU patch design number 425326 on them.

NASA recently added to its image archive a photo taken in 2014 that shows another Demo-1 patch previously not shown here.

The patch, which is variation on the Commercial Crew Program patch, was presented to the U.S. Coast Guard as part of a larger framed display.

All times are CT (US)
