I purchased this Sierra Nevada Corporation Dream Chaser Flight Test 4" patch today (Aug. 11) at the Air Force Space & Missile Museum's Collectibles Show and Sale. The vendor said he came by it by way of a friend, who sourced it from Edwards Air Force Base.

Has anyone seen this patch before?

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) release
SNC Releases Dream Chaser Spacecraft CRS-2 Program Patch

The Dream Chaser spacecraft CRS-2 program patch has been designed to represent the overall program at Sierra Nevada Corporation.

Mission and program patches are common in the space industry, and they typically incorporate areas of symbolism.

Symbols in the Dream Chaser CRS-2 program patch include:

  • Six large stars represent the six minimum missions to the Space Station which will be completed for NASA under the CRS-2 program by 2024.

  • A star over Colorado signifies where Dream Chaser is designed, built and operated.

  • The International Space Station is our destination for each mission under CRS-2. Dream Chaser will stay mated to the space station for up to 75 days during each mission.
Six additional mission patches will also be created for each Dream Chaser CRS-2 NASA missions as launch dates approach.

This design dates back to at least 2013, before Dream Chaser was dropped from NASA's Commercial Crew Program.

The program patch is for the still active Commercial Resupply Services-2 contract, working toward a first launch in late 2021.

It looks like they slightly varied their patches over time. I found some older ones I purchased a few years ago (and forgot about) and compared them to ones that arrived last week. Very subtle differences of little to no consequence. The old version is cloth backed, the new is plastic. In the photo below, left is the older version.

All times are CT (US)
