Soyuz MS-04 mission patch

Russia's Soyuz MS-04 will launch to the International Space Station in March 2017. Roscosmos cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin and NASA astronaut Jack Fisher will join the Expedition 51/52 crew.

The Soyuz MS-04 patch design is inspired on the iconic Apollo 12 patch.

The classic sailing ship symbolizes the dream of flying in space. The vessel trails a stream of stars, as used in the patch for Expedition 52, which cosmonaut Yurchikhin will command during the second part of his stay on the International Space Station, symbolized by the single star to the left of the ship.

Behind the ship in Earth-like colors is a depiction of Konstantin Tsiolkovski's design for a space station, while the border is similar in design to spaceship commander's Yurchikhin earlier Soyuz patches.

His name and that of astronaut Fischer, together with the name of the spaceship incorporating the Roscosmos logo and the space fliers national flags occupy the border of the logo.

Third seat to remain empty, be occupied by cargo, or going to a spaceflight participant?

The empty right seat will be used for additional cargo.

Usually the cargo container is situated at the place of the middle seat.

Jack Fischer confirmed at today's crew press conference that he will fly in the left seat, Fyodor will be in the middle seat and cargo (with a sign labeling it as "Paolo") will fly in the right seat of the Soyuz.

Very similar to Yurchikhin's Soyuz TMA-19 and TMA-09M patch designs. Nice!

After reading the description and looking at the artwork did anyone start hearing in their mind: "It's been a long road, getting from there to here ..."

In case you don't understand the reference.

Interesting that an Air Force Academy grad would go for a design inspired by one for an all-Navy crew!

I know Fedor will have his new personal patch for his fifth flight with new slogan. He also will have EVA patch together with Riasanskiy.

Great opportunity for our collections! More information we will have only next year.

We are close to the situation when the MS-04 crew will land with three crewmembers. The decision about Peggy's stay aboard the ISS after the MS-03 landing is under consideration and is supposed to be taken up to the end of January.

Let's wait and see.

"Russian" is giving some very interesting information here. Remember that Peggy Whitson once was rumored to be a candidate for the one year mission (that went to Scott Kelly). If she stays in space in the empty Expedition 52 slot, and she will land with Yurchikhin and Fischer in September (or even October, given the current Soyuz delays) 2017, she will have spent 10-11 months in space and will have flown her long duration mission after all.

Fyodor Yurchikhin has his new personal patch — I know for sure!

New slogan: "Roads Are Leaving With Walkers" in Latin. The previous one was: "Roads are Done By Walkers" also in Latin. And his first personal patch was with a classic slogan in Latin: "Viam Supervadet Vadens."

Hope he will land with a new version of the MS-04 patch with three names on it...

Congratulations for spacepatches.nl! Your 33rd patch in a row is aboard the ISS! "Argo" spaceship docked properly to the ISS.

I can not imagine this name will not appear somewhere in Fedor's emblems!

There is another/new version of the Soyuz MS-04 patch with the names of all three crew members. See after landing pictures.

Any information about this Soyuz MS-04 patch?

Normally Fedor was supposed to add ARGO in Greek somewhere on the landing version of the MS-04 patch.

Here’s a shot of the MS-04 landing patch.

Somewhat hard to see if you’re not looking for it, the word Argo (the legendary ship of Jason and the Argonauts) is stitched below the ship in ancient Greek: Ἀργώ.

Below is the landing patch compared to the Roscosmos prime crew and backup crew patches. Notably, the landing patch has a cut edge and plastic backing. The crew patches are fully merrowed edges and come with plastic and cloth backs (the latter for sewing onto flight garments).

As far as I understood this landing version of the MS-04 logo was adopted by Luc in touch with Yurchikhin already aboard the ISS. You are really strong, Luc! Congrats!!

Jacques, will the Soyuz MS-04 "start crew patch" and the Soyuz MS-04 "landing crew patch" be available to us collectors to buy as a "set of two" in the near future? (With a special price?)

Depends on how many I have left. The 04 "launch" patch is almost sold oud. And I have only 45 of the landing patches available for collectors.

This Friday I will send out my mail to collectors for the sale of the MS-06 crew patch and info on the 04 landing patch will be in that mail. If you are not on the mailing list and want to send me a message.

A panel Energia and Fedor Yurchikhin produced because the Soyuz MS-04 was called by the crew "Argo" — legendary ship of argonauts (Greek mythology).

Fedor's mother is Greek. Argo in Greek is seen on the landing version of the MS-04 patch.

Here the panel is on the wall of the living compartment of the ship docked to the space station.
