In 1965 and 1967, NASA astronauts traveled to Iceland for geology training. This month, The Exploration Museum will host a reunion event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first trip.

Jorge Cartes R and I were asked to design a special anniversary commemorative to mark the occasion by Örlygur Hnefill Örlygsson.

The central feature of the design is the map of Iceland with the area of training circled in red. The flags of Iceland and the United States fill the distance between the Earth and the moon illustrating the significance of this training to the success of the missions.

The figures in the upper left are two of the astronauts along with one of the geologists who trained them. The figures in the lower right represent Gene Cernan and Jack Schmitt (the only geologist-astronaut) who explored the moon during Apollo 17.

The Exploration Museum plans to offer a limited edition of this patch for sale. Contact them if you are interested in purchasing one.

Is there any other contact info such as an email address? All I can see on their website is a phone number. Being the space enthusiast and rock hound I am this patch is a must for me. Tim, any chance you will be allowed to offer these for a limited time here in the states?
