I am trying to find info on the Lion Brothers orange border Apollo 11 patch and the AB Emblem green lunar surface Apollo 11 patch. I am trying to find out why those variations were produced. Were they prototypes? Also curious if anyone has an idea of the production numbers of those variants. I own both variants and am trying to get more info on them. Thanks for any help. |

One source of the Lion Brothers' orange bordered Apollo 11 patch is a two-patch commemorative set. As far as I can tell, only the orange version has been made available in these sets The set was also made for a Breast 'o Chicken promotion. That does not mean that this is the only source of orange versions, but it could be one of the sources. As for the "green moon" A-B Emblem Apollo 11 patch, a similar story: this is the only Apollo 11 patch found in the plastic framed "Signatura - Needle Painters Guild" sets. Again, that does not mean this is the sole source of that variation, it is one possible source. Those have always been cloth-backed versions and there are plastic-backed "green moon" patches out there, too. Also, some are on black velvet while others executed on black twill. | |
