I got a reply back from Maribel saying $198.05 to ship it to United Kingdom via USPS International, heaven knows what the import duty would be.

I think you will have to pay VAT (20%) plus the Post Office handling fee which last I heard was around £30.

Funny (relatively speaking) about the difference for the same package shipped from California to the UK and Switzerland...

20% VAT?

Over here, it's 8% but (obviously) the amount is calculated on the value of the goods plus the postage! On the latest package I received, I had to pay the VAT, a tax from the Swiss Post Office ($21) and another $15 because the Swiss customs decided that the package needed to be taxed (otherwise the package would have gone though the Swiss postal system with no taxes to be paid- it's some kind of a reverse lottery; you never know if you'll have to pay something or not!). There's also a storage tax ($13) just in case the package needs to stay overnight before being processed... And to top it off, your package can remain stuck at the customs for days without any explanation. One package got stuck one week; I emailed them asking "what the...!?!?", and the package arrived the next day with no taxes to be paid even though I should have... Lots of fun.

Actually 20% Import VAT on cost of goods plus postage etc as expressed on the Customs Declaration Form and a further £8 Post Office Handling Fee.

You only paid an £8 handling fee? I've been robbed!

Half the time I get the distinct impression the people at the Post Office make these charges up as they go along.

From the Royal Mail website:
If you are receiving a package from overseas (unless it’s from another EU Country), please be aware that it may incur customs charges. Any package assessed as being liable for customs charges will also incur a Royal Mail handling fee of £8.
As I understand it, the Postman can only leave you the card informing you that charges are due. You pay the handling charge and the Import VAT when you pick the parcel up from the Delivery Office. That's how it works Up North at least.

I had an opportunity to see the display at Spacefest. An impressive display at a reasonable price. Glad I ordered one.

Frame #90 arrived this morning (8 am), 6/10. $50 in additional sales tax and customs duties.

The frame looks terrific — as always.

I got #94 here in the UK and collected it from the local Parcelforce depot yesterday (18th June 2013) after paying Customs and Post Office fees of £37.36.

Shipping to the UK via USPS was $85.19

I'm pleased Winco did not use FedEx to ship the framed set to me which was the case with the Shuttle pin set. Granted it arrived very quickly and FedEx paid all the duties etc up front and I paid them as soon as their Invoice arrived and I got an email confirmation of payment

However over two weeks later I received a letter stating I hadn't paid, suspending my account and threatening me with sendng in a debt collection agency.

It took some time to sort this out. They only seemed to have one telephone line to the appropriate department, constantly engaged but eventually I did contact them and after further correspondence I received an apology of sorts.

Had I been relying on them for my business I could have been seriously compromised. Not the best example of customer service I would have expected from a world-wide carrier.

There again, I have a friend who has used them on many occasions and can't speak more highly of the service he has received. Perhaps I was just unlucky!
