European Space Agency (ESA) shoulder patch

For the first time in ESA's history, we are proud to announce that the original ESA astronaut shoulder patch is now available to order.

This version, with the ESA logo and 19 Member State flags, is exactly as worn by current ESA astronauts and first worn by Andre Kuipers during training for his ESA PromISSe mission in 2011. The original provider, the German company Quadrotem, has been licensed to produce these for sale to the public and by ESA-authorised vendors.

Ordering details:

1-10 patches cost 8,00 Euro per patch (not including postage - please call or email for details)

A wholesale price for larger orders has been agreed (minimum 50 patches) at 5,63 Euro per patch (not including tax and postage)

Cheers and best wishes — Carl, ESA

Cheers, Erik, yes we're working to hopefully produce patches of earlier ESA missions with our original suppliers.

Carl, I've been waiting a long time for something like this. This is most welcome news and I wish you success in continuing this initiative. Between your role as Editor of ESA Bulletin and what you have undertaken here, we are fortunate in having you serving our needs. Thank you very much.

Well, they are around, I was mailing with Michael last week. I had an advance order made up 2-3 weeks ago, but the main run should be ready by now. I'll call them on Monday.

Michael emailed me last week to say that he expects the patches to be available by week 38.

I also got the same reply early last week. Mr. Scholl-Röntgen went on to say that the price will be 10,80 Euro (a little over $14) and that payment is to be made by Moneytransfer (wire transfer).

However, my bank charges a $35 fee for wire transfers regardless of the amount of the transfer. In other words, if I order one patch the fee is going to be more than twice the cost of the patch!

I replied to Mr. Scholl-Röntgen the next day and asked if another form of payment would be accepted. So far, no answer.

I received the ESA patch yesterday. I ordered one on Oct. 25 (my bank charged me around 4 Euro for the money transfer). The patch (see the image below) is 3.15" wide and 5.11" long (8 x 13 cm):

Maybe I can do a large order and order patches for members of collectSPACE, that would save on shipping costs.

Okay, I have a total price now on what it would cost "me" (spacepatches.nl) to order these for you.

Price for one patch would be 9 Euro + shipping...

This weekend I will be sending patch collectors, who are on my e-mail list, an e-mail for the order of the Soyuz TMA-07M crew patch and for the ESA flag patch.

If you are NOT on my e-mail list and would like to buy an ESA flag patch please send an e-mail to: mail@spacepatches.nl

Price for the ESA-flag patch is 9 EURO + shipping. I accept PayPal.

Indeed we did. Better order your 19-flag version now, before we switch to the 20-flag version (already designed)...

Yes, Nick - our supplier producing the clothing has been authorised to produce a version of the patch for these items only. But the 'real' ESA astronaut patch, as supplied to EAC, is still only available from Quadrotem in Germany.

Quadrotem now have ESA's 20 Member State patches available, following Poland joining Europe's space agency last November.

Note the 19-flag version will be available while stocks last, for collectors, but officially we have switched to the 20-flag version.

Quadrotem can also now accept PayPal orders.
Contact for more details: mroentgen@quadrotem.de.

The (50) 19 flag version patches I ordered for collectors are sold out. I can do the same for for the 20 flag version if there is interest.

Editor's note: E-mail if interested.

As Cascader mentioned earlier, we've been notified that there is a delay on the delivery of the 20-flag patches. Michael at Quadrotem explained that they found a quality issue on the last batch, so are producing another batch. These will be ready in a couple of weeks. I'm glad they spotted this, and we appreciate their attention to detail and intent to give us a great product. Again, I hope you understand and please bear with us.

Same reply as earlier: this is the Kentavr Nauka suit which was sent ahead of the crew aboard Progress. Twenty flag patches came too late to attach to these suits!

MSS, please can you stop taking shots at ESA for something that has been openly explained here and is under reasonable control?

There are no agendas, or intentional 'slurs'. ESA is doing its best to make sure that patches used by its astronauts are the most current and represent all Member States.

We trust that Alex, Samantha, Andreas and Tim will all wear the current patch — as will Luca on his return.

Carl et al - somehow I missed this thread until now but would like to get a patch (the 20, but also the 19 for nostalgia's sake!). What's the best way?

It's quite a nice looking patch, too, by the way. Thanks.

Great to hear that. By the way, Alexander is doing so. Here is 20 flag version of ESA patch.
