European Space Agency (ESA) shoulder patchFor the first time in ESA's history, we are proud to announce that the original ESA astronaut shoulder patch is now available to order. This version, with the ESA logo and 19 Member State flags, is exactly as worn by current ESA astronauts and first worn by Andre Kuipers during training for his ESA PromISSe mission in 2011. The original provider, the German company Quadrotem, has been licensed to produce these for sale to the public and by ESA-authorised vendors. Ordering details: 1-10 patches cost 8,00 Euro per patch (not including postage - please call or email for details) A wholesale price for larger orders has been agreed (minimum 50 patches) at 5,63 Euro per patch (not including tax and postage) Contact: Michael Scholl-Röntgen Quadrotem Werbeagentur GmbH Georgsplatz 8 50676 Köln Phone +49 221 789678-72 Email mroentgen@quadrotem.de Cheers and best wishes — Carl, ESA |

Carl, I've been waiting a long time for something like this. This is most welcome news and I wish you success in continuing this initiative. Between your role as Editor of ESA Bulletin and what you have undertaken here, we are fortunate in having you serving our needs. Thank you very much. |

Well, they are around, I was mailing with Michael last week. I had an advance order made up 2-3 weeks ago, but the main run should be ready by now. I'll call them on Monday. |

I also got the same reply early last week. Mr. Scholl-Röntgen went on to say that the price will be 10,80 Euro (a little over $14) and that payment is to be made by Moneytransfer (wire transfer). However, my bank charges a $35 fee for wire transfers regardless of the amount of the transfer. In other words, if I order one patch the fee is going to be more than twice the cost of the patch! I replied to Mr. Scholl-Röntgen the next day and asked if another form of payment would be accepted. So far, no answer. |

I received the ESA patch yesterday. I ordered one on Oct. 25 (my bank charged me around 4 Euro for the money transfer). The patch (see the image below) is 3.15" wide and 5.11" long (8 x 13 cm): |

Maybe I can do a large order and order patches for members of collectSPACE, that would save on shipping costs. |

Indeed we did. Better order your 19-flag version now, before we switch to the 20-flag version (already designed)... |

Yes, Nick - our supplier producing the clothing has been authorised to produce a version of the patch for these items only. But the 'real' ESA astronaut patch, as supplied to EAC, is still only available from Quadrotem in Germany. |

As Cascader mentioned earlier, we've been notified that there is a delay on the delivery of the 20-flag patches. Michael at Quadrotem explained that they found a quality issue on the last batch, so are producing another batch. These will be ready in a couple of weeks. I'm glad they spotted this, and we appreciate their attention to detail and intent to give us a great product. Again, I hope you understand and please bear with us. |
