I was curious what others thought about the Soviet and Russian space flight patches offered by ebay seller "worldhobby2009"? Although I have bought a couple patches from this fellow, I put them all in the category of souvenir or reproduction patches. These are all of very similar quality and resemble the original insignia, but there is a huge difference between the two. Someone is paying a lot for these patches however and they are certainly not priced like souvenir patches.

These are 100 percent souvenir (or I would better like to call them "fake"). He is simply copying images from the internet. No matter how bad the patches look; he is obviously making money with someone else's work.

In addition to the designers of the commemorative Shuttle patches he sells, he is infringing at least the copyright of Stewart Aviation/the late Vadim Molchanov (Soyuz-1 to 9), Alex Panchenko (TMA-5, TMA-9), Luc van den Abeelen (TMA-3), Oleg Kononenko/Sergei Volkov (TMA-12), Alexander Serebrov (Soyuz youth organization), Roscosmos (agency logo patches), Konstantin Lantratov (multiple Mir and Soyuz TM patches), Oleg Shitikov (Mir-23) and Wayne Begnaud (ASTP Crew patch proposal).

He is selling a couple of patches I am very familiar with, including tiny 3 inch versions of TMA-14, 15, 16 and 18.

On the one hand, "worldhobby2009" is creating replicas of many early Russian/Soviet patches that simply haven't been available in years, since Stewart Aviation sold out of a lot of their stock and hasn't bothered to make more. Which is a completely silly move on Stewart's part, because I suspect there are a lot of collectors (like myself) who'd like to have another chance to buy them. But on the other hand, worldhobby2009's prices are absurd. $24.99 for many of them? He's even got one for $49.99. Plus $4.99 shipping! Shameful.

Harald... why you do not try to reply them in a high version? I'm sure a lot of collectors (like myself) will stand up at your side in the making process... and in the buying them one.

All times are CT (US)
