At first glance this patch lot on eBay (140077775751) looks like it contains a crew Apollo 9 patch but in fact they all seem to be modern patches.

Does anyone know who made/makes these patches?

I think the Apollo 9 is the one shown one shown on Gene Dorr's page as ep09-em4.

To me they look like comic versions of the real patches. I mean what the heck is Apollo 11 looking like?

The NASA original black "sky" and the one on eBay blue "sky"?

The set of Apollo patches, including the program emblem and Apollo 1, are the productions of Cape Kennedy Mint here in Florida. They were later or recent versions, not vintage era, at all.

Thanks for the info Ken.

And yes, they do look 'cartoony' with the notable exception of the Apollo 9 patch which, as Jacques notes on his site, is remarkably true to the original mission emblem design.

I'm resurrecting an old thread here because I've come across another set of these modern patches which Ken attributes to Cape Kennedy Medals.

A few of the patches are different (better I would say) than the versions in the eBay set shown at the top of the thread.

Although very modern looking I find some of these patches to be pretty nicely done — Apollo 9 in particular as Gene mentioned long ago, but the Apollo 11 and 16 patches also not bad either.

I also realized that the 'mystery' bare back Apollo 15 design I came across recently is actually a perfect match for the Apollo 15 in this set. It seems that they experimented at least with producing bare back versions of these patches.

I also came across the matching 3" versions, although not a complete set:

Now I'm not a fan of 3" patches but it strikes me that if you have to use a 3" patch in some kind of presentation most of these versions look a whole lot better than the vast majority of versions I've seen.

The Apollo 7, 9, 11 and 16 patches look very good to me (for 3" patches) and some of the others not bad.

Ken - so you're saying (said a long time ago) that the A11 patch at the start of this thread, the one with the light blue "sky" is a Cape Kennedy Mint patch? I'm only asking because I recently found one just like it and wondered who may have made it. Is what I'm reading here correct? It's a CKM patch?
