To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the launch of Gemini XI (September 12, 1966), AB Emblem has released a commemorative edition that is more faithful to the insignia worn by the crew.

This emblem was designed with the direct input of Captain Richard F. Gordon, Jr. pilot of Gemini XI.

Size 3" x 4 7/8"

This emblem is now available for order through buySPACE/Countdown Creations.

Nice looking patch. It's close to the original but still not 100% accurate. I believe the small 'first orbit' star should be white and not gold and the star at bottom right should touch the 'O' of Gordon's name. I wonder if this is going to be the first of a series of new commemorative Gemini patches?

Which reminds me...has there been any progress with the CS effort to produce replica Gemini patches that reproduce the flown designs as closely as possible?

This development would seem to supplant the need to do another set, assuming AB continues the trend and issues more accurate patches. I can't see AB wanting to do this set twice and thus far, at least personally speaking, I haven't been happy with the quality offered through other manufacturers. I'm planning to interview the president of AB (for an article) in a few weeks and might be able to learn more about their Gemini plans at that time.

It's not bad, but definitely not 100% accurate, which is a shame. To me, it's the black thread on the spacewalking astronaut that is most irksome.

Well Maybee R. Gordon did not remember that well what the original patch looked liked....or he did not have one...

Hopefully we from CS can do a better job...

...or, as it now appears, this patch is intended to be how the crew intended their patches to be designed:

On the left is the new AB Emblem patch (duplicated from above); on the right is the original artwork, as appears in NASA photo ID: S66-44308.

Does anyone have available a good color image of the patch as it was on their spacesuits in 1966?

I agree Robert, that the new AB emblem appears very close to the original artwork you posted.

I think our intent was to replicate a set to mirror what the crews wore during the flights. But if AB is going to produce sets based on input from crewmembers and based on original artwork then I think our project is going to be at least delayed if not canceled.

Thanks Robert-

A beautiful patch then. Better than the original worn by Conrad & Gordon. I'll be getting one.

Be sure and ask the President of AB about the remaining Gemini Patches.

I follow Tim's opinion. It looks to me the best Gemini XI patch ever made, and most likely design of the original artwork.
This one, added to Randy's Gemini V, begins (I think) the race to make a faithfully designs of the Gemini Program patches. At last Luc's original idea may would have been the perfect launch of a great dream for we, the patch collectors.
