I saw most of the usual suspects bidding on the patches in the Aurora 2nd chance auction today. This Walt Salyer collection seemed to have something for everyone.Gemini 9 crew patch - nice one Ben. Apollo 1 crew patches - didn't think I'd ever find myself one of these. Apollo 10 crew patch - anyone know the story on that one? It looks like a nice patch but was it the one used by the crew? Interesting in any case. Apollo 11 BIG patches - went out of my price range, but well done Ron and Donnis. I loved the suit-ready betacloth patches too. I missed out on the NASA meatball and the E.M.U. but I just had to have the Apollo 15 patch. Costly but to me the suit-ready patches look so much better than a regular cut cloth. It seemed like a lot of the regular betacloth patches went unsold. Shame they all started at $75. If they'd been $50 I reckon they would all have sold. |

Thanks Chris,I feel very fortunate to win several patches from this auction. The Apollo 11 was one of those I just had to have. I also picked up the original crew patch for Apollo 10, and the Manned Spacecraft Center original Nasa patch used on overcoats worn by spacesuit technicians in the clean room. It was a good day! It was indeed a good day for a few of ya'll, but if some of the rest of us could have gotten on there, well who knows . . . I guess this makes up for the AP-11 isolation garment patch that I picked up on eBay for $29.00 bucks awhile ago. There were better patches in the second chance than the original auction. I actually made it home from my kids easter egg hunt to watch some of the live auction. First time I'd ever done that. Didn't win anything that way, but had bid like a lunatic for the Gemini patch and will continue to pray that it is a good one? Anyone have any thoughts on it? Ben Guttery |

It certainly looks like the real deal to me. I would have liked to get it myself but some 'lunatic' outbid me. |

I landed the big NASA "suit ready patch"... I had my eye on that Apollo 15 patch, Chris... lucky for you that eBay froze on my computer before it came up! That's a great patch.Noah |

Congratulations, Ben! That was a HUGE score on that Gemini patch. I would have given you a run for your money on it, but my browser locked up on me during the live bidding. In any case, well done. You've got a real gem for your collection there. I've got an original Gemini patch myself (Gemini 11) and it's truly a highlight of my collection - all framed and hung on the wall. ------------------ Bill Hunt |

I would have loved to have had a chance at that Gemini patch as well, but I certainly can't complain about it going to a fellow Texan and forum member! James [This message has been edited by JFS61 (edited April 10, 2006).] |
