I recently sold a Lion Brothers patch on eBay. I received a question from a gentleman asking if it was a 3" or a 4" patch. I stated that all Lion Brothers patches were 4". He replied that he had some 3" hallmarked Lion Brothers patches. I have never heard of these before.

Did the Lion Brothers company ever make a 3" hallmarked patch?

I do not believe Lion Bros. made hallmarked 3-inch patches. I base this on the information presented in Russ Still's book "Relics of the Space Race," which as I recall made no mention of such patches and that I have never found any for sale on eBay or Lunar Legacies (Donnis Willis).

Perhaps this person has some rare "off brand" patches. AB Emblem and Lion Bros. were not the only companies to make Apollo patches.

Did Lion Brothers make 3" patches at all? I've done a quick search and cannot find a definite yes or no.

I just bought a Apollo XIII patch that looked just like a Lion Brothers, I didn't bother to check size, couldn't see the hallmark on the eBay photo, but took the chance for $5.

Upon receiving it, It is 3", but the colors and design are a dead ringer for the 4" LB. It has a bare cloth back. Really, a nice patch for a 3"er.

All times are CT (US)
