The lack of a good pre-built X-15 model has been highlighted by the recent sucky AF-X effort. It seems that manufacturers are not convinced of potential sales. A quality diecast version would probably be relatively costly since it would be produced in smaller volume than typical diecast airplane subjects. I'm curious in how interested guys here would be in a new tooling diecast X-15.I've listed the length and very roughly estimated RRP for three different scales so you can have an idea of how much room they'd need and total cost. Can anyone interested give me an idea of how many different releases they'd look to collect in each scale? - 1/72: 9.5 inches - $130
- 1/48: 14 inches - $240
- 1/32: 21 inches - $410
For those familiar with diecast models, the quality would be something like an Air Commander F-4. |

I'll stick to my 1960s North American Aviation scale model. |

As a lurker who's mad for rocket planes, I would be keenly interested in any accurate X-15 model, the larger the better! |

Well I think this has been up long enough to say, sadly, the cS community has very little interest. Maybe airplane collectors will be more positive. |

I suspect this is the type of thing that "if you build it, they will come."It is also probably well-suited for a crowdfunding campaign (e.g. Kickstarter). So long as you believe in it enough to fund a prototype, or at least set up the production chain such that you can go to town as soon as you get the backers, then a crowdfunding campaign would define if a market for such exists or not. |
