I purchased this 1:20 scale Apollo CSM wood model that was described as a wind tunnel model from 1967. It looks as if the model was purposely built without an engine bell since the bottom of the service module and command module have holes in the bottom center that fits perfectly with a round peg that is on the stand, similar to the peg on the top of the SM that the CM fits.

I am hopping that others here on cS will have more information on this model. Please use the photos as further descriptions. All help is greatly appreciated.

While I am not saying it is not a wind tunnel model, I am not sure why it would be needed. The CSM itself would not see any aerodynamics as it would be covered by the BPC/LES structure which would really be the major driver during the accent through atmosphere.

This configuration would be showing only after the BPC/LES is gone, well above any atmospheric drag issues.

I was friends with the Manager of the NAA Tri-Sonic in El Segundo, an amazing piece of machinery. Too bad they tore it down. One thing he gave me was a tiny Apollo Capsule that was used for ablative testing. It had a mounting hole on top and burn marks where the heatshield is.

All times are CT (US)
