Have just seen these on the Horizon Models website a 1/72 Mercury Atlas, along with the Mercury capsule in the same scale. Both look fantastic, will have to buy a few I think.

Has anyone seen these yet firsthand?

Yep, I built the Atlas. It really is a great kit. You can tell it was very well researched, just by the detailed decals and instructions. It also has extra parts that I am sure will be used for future USAF release. I haven't gotten the capsule set yet, but the same parts are included in the Atlas. It can be build as any capsule flown as well as a boilerplate version.

As a side note, I messed up my decals, and they were very gracious to send me a new set for free when I asked how much it was to buy a new set!

Here are couple of quick photos of my Atlas. I really hope they do some Gemini kits!

I did hear from their customer service rep that they have other space kits planned, and we should hear about them soon.

Thanks for the info, very nice indeed. Let's hope the Gemini follows soon. These have been a long time coming, can't wait to get mine.

Looks nice, but I sure wish we could get something more recent than 1981 in styrene. I'm really tired of building 35-to-50-year-old spacecraft. Sigh.

Yes. What is there now, the Revell SS2 w/mothership, which is probably out of print? The Japanese have made a couple of satellites and an HTV (1/96-ish if I recall correctly), out of print by now I believe.

We should have styrene Dragons and Dragon-2s and Cygnusses... er, Cygni? Maybe a Bigelow, with assorted ports and nodes so you could build a station. Orion. Dream Chaser. Atlas 5s and Delta 4s and Falcons. It's the 21st bleeping century. Thank goodness for the GK companies or we'd have almost nothing.

I'll give a shot at a few 3D prints of things when my printer eventually comes, but after 40 years of building space models, I'm getting bored! It's the same darned subjects we had 40 years ago!

I shouldn't have derailed this thread, sorry to the author, your build is really good and you should be proud of it. But dang, this is frustrating. Yeeearrrgh!

I agree with your thoughts about new styrene, in an ideal world!

I guess it all comes down to how commercial the more obscure space related themes would be... it's still nice to have a Mercury Atlas in this scale.

Great to see a new Mercury Atlas kit! I remember building the old Revell kit with launch pad and rocket trailer back in the day. Would be nice to see a Mercury Redstone and Gemini Titan II to round out a set.
