What's happened to the Space Voyager Ultimate Apollo Moon Mission playset? I saw it for sale on various websites a few months back. It doesn't seem to be available anymore.

It's a toy of the Apollo command, service and lunar modules. It looked pretty cool and good value.

It was discontinued. The set was acquired by Action Products/Space Voyagers from IPI after the latter folded. The model looked good in the box but the construction was poor and when subject to the average child, LM legs would break off easily (among other problems). In fact, you didn't even need to take it outside the box -- many would arrive broken. In the end, it was more trouble than it was worth...

If you were lucky enough to find one intact, as Robert stated... it was pretty nice! I have the CSM mounted to one mahogany base, and the LM on another mahogany base. Pretty good and inexpensive desk models.

That's exactly what I wanted it for. An inexpensive alternative to some of the proper replicas.

I'll keep an eye out on eBay...

Here is a bit of a blast-from-the-past, I am new to this forum and was wondering if there is a way be able to track down one of these? I saw them at Mall of America about eight years ago but was too young and poor (ma-n-pa wouldn't buy it for me and I had already spent my allowance).

I have checked eBay and cant find one anywhere.

They come up on eBay on occasion (that's where I got mine!). Just be patient and I'm sure you'll find one in a month or two.

I had one of these sets that I bought about nine or ten years ago from (I think) a World of Science store. They did make an excellent and inexpensive model. Mine even survived a move overseas, but not the move back. The lunar module descent stage was done for, and I don't know what ever came of the CSM part. Anyway, if I was ever able to get my hands on another one, I would!

Is this the one with the 'talking' LM? "That's one small step"...etc?

Yes, it did have a button on the bottom of the descent stage that would activate the "one small step..." quote. I forgot about that.

I've got one in my cabinet then! I did buy it from "World of Science" on Merritt Island I believe for about $40? when I visited in 2000.

I used one set to top a 1/48th Saturn V full stack for the Hornet. The Apollo scales out to 1/44 scale which actually fits with the Revell model kit with the LM cover.

I agree they look pretty good for a toy — I have them in my office at work rather than risk displaying my Walter Hyatt/Precise versions there.

Just got mine today and was a little disappointed, the CM is gold, like the Revell kit. I had thought that it was silver like the (incorrect) SM, sure enough when I checked some old pics I have, the Space Voyagers CM was correct, but the IPI one wasn't. Anyone got any tips for fixing it up? Or should I just spray bomb the CM with some chrome paint and the SM with some silver?

I purchased one at the Neil Armstrong Museum years back. It's been occupying space in the closet.

How accurate is Space Voyagers' Ultimate Apollo Moon Mission set?

I've had it for quite a while (I believe it's an earlier issue, as the CM is gold as opposed to silver) and to my un-trained eyes, I think that it's a rather nice representation of the Apollo spacecraft, albeit a bit fragile.

Editor's note: Threads merged.

I have owned this toy for several years now and do not display it. I believe that it was fairly inexpensive when I purchased it because it is a playset. Because of this the accuracy is very good for a toy but mediocre as a static model. Also, as stated above, the product is fragile for a toy.

I saw one for sale at a show last month for very little. I told a space collectible dealer about it and let him snatch it up, mostly because I didn't have room for the thing to display it anyway. Otherwise, I thought it was very well done for a toy...
