I acquired a flown space shuttle main engine (SSME) turbine blade rectangle lucite and, after doing some research, found there are a few different types. Below the ones I have found. If anyone has any information or even more varieties, please let me know here.1. SSME monument STS-28, 36 2. SSME monument STS-28, 36 and 48 3. SSME monument STS-28, 31, 39 and 48 4. SSME puck John Glenn STS-95 5. SSME pentagon Kansas Cosmosphere I think there is a triangle one with flights 41, 51, 53 and 60, but do not have a picture. |

What you are describing as a rectangle is often referred to as a monument (given its resemblance to such). There are a number of these monuments with different flight histories. Former launch director Mike Leinbach's display, for example, was from STS-27, STS-50 and STS-54. The Cosmosphere lucite was created for sale to museum patrons. The monuments were gifts to team members who worked on the engines or space shuttle program. Astronauts, launch directors and other VIPs received a pyramid (6 inches in height and 6.25 inches square at the base). Here is Leinbach's with a blade from STS-1, STS-2 and STS-3: |

A few more examples of presentations can be seen below. Also as a related topic, I'll share an excel file put together containing a summary of SSME positions from each flight, with some background on the turbopumps. If anyone has a more complete list of which S/N turbopumps were on each engine/flight that would be helpful. HPFTP: STS-32, 38, 40, 42 HPFTP: STS-45, 51, 53, 60 HPFTP: STS-71, 72, 79, 84, 86 HPOTP: STS-27, 50, 54 HPOTP: STS-33 |
