Can anyone tell me how the lighting functions worked on the Apollo Mission Control panel push-buttons? On film, you see them lit, sometimes flashing, and sometimes off.

Sometimes, someone will push a solidly-lit button and it flashes. Sometimes a button is flashing and gets pushed, and either goes solid lit, or dark, or keeps just flashing. Other times buttons are dark but operated anyway.

I'm speaking specifically of the Master Specialties Co. Twist-Lite Mil Spec illuminated push buttons. These were the most common buttons on Apollo MOCR panels. Thanks!

I assume these are the PBI's on the Comm panel that you are referring to and although I have not updated this incomplete image for the EECOM position for a while, it may assist you with your question;

While I don't have time now to search myself, I believe this document may help.

Dark means the net is not monitored. Lit means it is being monitored. Flashing means it is the channel the operator is talking on. Winking (slower flashing) means active channel (the last two may be swapped).
